You can find the latest updates from Royal Mail here.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Description

Old Brown Java Dark Roast provides a bold and intense coffee experience with a deep, well-rounded flavour profile. This roast level enhances the natural earthy qualities of the beans, resulting in strong notes of dark chocolate, a rich tobacco-like depth, and a hint of smooth vanilla. The dark roast brings out a fuller body and a long, satisfying finish, perfect for those who enjoy a robust and distinctive cup.

Flavour Profile and Aroma

  • Flavours: Dark chocolate, tobacco-like, vanilla
  • Aroma: Deep and earthy with a smoky, sweet undertone
  • Body: Full-bodied, smooth
  • Acidity: Low

Brewing Methods and Serving Suggestions

To fully appreciate the bold and complex flavours of this dark roast, try brewing it in a moka pot to extract the rich, concentrated essence of its dark chocolate and tobacco-like notes. It also works wonderfully in an Aeropress, delivering a strong, intense cup with a smooth mouthfeel. For a more traditional brew, use a drip coffee maker to balance its robust profile with a clean finish.

Old Brown Java Origin and Details

Old Brown Java comes from the Indonesian island of Java, where it is traditionally aged to bring out its unique flavour profile. The beans are exposed to the humid monsoon winds, which reduce their acidity and develop deep, earthy notes. This process, known as "monsooning," gives the coffee its characteristic old brown colour and rich, bold flavours.

  • Region: Java, Indonesia
  • Processing Method: Monsooning, dry-processed
  • Ageing: Aged for several years to develop unique flavour profile

Difficult to dial in

As a straight up espresso, these beans were very difficult to dial in on my Sette 270. Just when I thought I had nailed my grind, the follow up drinks flowed too fast with rapid blonding no matter what I did. At best I managed 40g in 30seconds which is completely off my usual ratio.

The taste is still very good, with very dark chocolate hints along with a smokiness. I highly doubt I'll purchase again because the beans are quite oily out of the bag so I don't want to gum up my grinder.

Excellent, faultless delivery from Redber as usual :)

Too strong for me

Won't be buying again, but it does make a decent noisette.

Espresso?

Not a very best experience with these beens for an espresso shot. They maybe more suitable for other methods. Lots of foaming when pulling the shot (similar to stretching the milk) with about 40-45% of the volume even after being left for 10days after the roasting. Also, blonding very quickly during the extraction.
