Coffee of the Month March 2022 - Kenyan Peaberry

Coffee of the Month March 2022 - Kenyan Peaberry

Kiara Maher |

Kenya’s coffee industry made up of many small farms and co-operatives which collectively produce a very characteristic coffee style.

Despite grower discontent and urban encroachment on prime coffee lands, Kenya continues to produce some of the world's most elegant and distinctive coffees.

Kenya Peaberry

Our Redber Kenyan Peaberry consists entirely of peaberries, a kind of bean that results when the coffee fruit develops only a single, oval bean rather than the usual pair of flat-sided beans. Peaberries produce a somewhat different (often better) cup than normal beans from the same crop, from which they may or may not be separated during grading.

These smaller beans are sorted through the farm’s processing plant, separated according to size and weight. Interestingly, the percentage of peaberry mutation is dependent on rainfall and heat – the higher the heat, and lower the rainfall, the more peaberries.

This well-balanced Peaberry coffee has a fine body, a citric acidity, flavours of almond blossom and citrus fruits.
