Coffee of The Month April 2023 - Old Brown Java

Petra Jones |

April is here, and that means it's time for a new coffee of the month! This April, we're featuring Old Brown Java, a bold coffee from Indonesia. Old Brown Java is full-bodied with musky and earthy flavour. This coffee is sure to please any coffee drinker who is looking for a truly unique and complex cup of coffee.

The history of Old Brown Java coffee dates back to the 17th century when Dutch settlers brought it to the island of Java. The Dutch settlers found that the flavor of this type of coffee was superior to other coffees they had tasted. Old Brown Java coffee was then exported to Europe and eventually the United States in the late 19th century.

Aging the coffee beans is what gives Old Brown Java coffee its unique flavour. The beans are aged in wooden barrels or bags for a period of time that can range from months to years. During this aging process, the beans take in flavours from the wood and the environment. This process gives the beans a richer, more complex flavour that is unlike any other type of coffee.

Old Brown Java coffee is also known for having a lower acidity than other coffees. This is due to the aging process, which mellows the flavour of the coffee. The lower acidity makes it easier to drink and more enjoyable for those who are more sensitive to the acidity of coffee. We enjoy Old Brown Java as an espresso, but it can also be brewed using a V60 or an Aeropress.
