Ethiopia Sidama coffee comes from the Sidama region, located south of Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa. This region is renowned for its ideal coffee-growing conditions, with altitudes ranging from 1,600 to 1,900 meters above sea level, rich volcanic soil, ample rainfall, and optimal temperatures. These conditions make Sidama one of Ethiopia's most productive and sought-after coffee regions, known for producing high-quality beans with distinct flavours and a unique character.

The Sidama beans are of the Typica variety and are fully washed to ensure clarity and consistency in the cup. The washed processing method involves removing the mucilage from the coffee cherries before fermentation, resulting in a cleaner, brighter cup with enhanced acidity and refined flavours. The Grade 2 classification for Sidama coffee indicates a high-quality washed coffee with minimal defects (4-12 defects per 300g), showcasing the careful attention to detail in its production.

Ethiopia is believed to be the birthplace of coffee, with wild Coffea Arabica plants growing in the forests of the Kaffa region. Ethiopian coffees, especially those from Sidama, are celebrated for their varied and distinctive flavour profiles, which can range from sweet and fruity to floral and tea-like.

really nice coffee

Redbers have an excellent range of coffees, which allowed me to explore some I have not previously tased. I am very pleased with both the Ethiopian Sidamo and the Peru Tapir Andino Red - a bit different from the normal coffee available

Coffee very good but

The coffee is sent in a foil backed bag which is in turn delivered in a non-recyclable plastic bag. Although the coffee is excellent, the packaging needs urgent attention

Ethiopian Sidamo

We love this coffee. We like experimenting with others sometimes, and Redber are great at making recommendations and sharing their expert knowledge. But in truth, we’re creatures of habit. And the Ethiopian Sidamo is a really quite lovely, mellow habit to have.

Great coffee, great service

I've been a Redber customer for a number of years.

Their coffee is superb, as is their service. On the rare occasion the machinery makes a mistake and I get a slightly coarser grind, it gets replaced (three times over about sixty bags) without any quibbles.

New grinders?

This month's coffee seemed to be a finer (better) grind. Previous months supplies have been a little more coarse and not as good in the espresso maker, but this one is perfect. I wonder why it should be that there is such variation

Still a customer

Well I've been buying the same coffee for about a year now. Occasionally Redber have sent the wrong stuff, or when I moved they sent it to my old address, but they're very quick to rectify mistakes and the coffee is still my favourite (and believe me when I tell you I'm a fussy old git). I can also tell you that if I keep getting automated emails asking me to review my purchase, things may get weird.

A great espresso

never quite sure about African coffees in general, I like to try and support their industry such as my small impact can do, but I fiind the coffees too variable in quality ..with the exception of Ethiopian beans ..Sidamo in particular. However , for me Sidamo does not always hit the spot as a long coffee but makes a surprisingly good espresso.... which I suggest you give a shot for a complex and tasty shot !
