The Hand Grinder That Has Got The Coffee World Talking

Here at Redber we are very excited to introduce the Comandante C40 Nitro Blade Hand Coffee Grinder MK4. This newly-launched hand grinder has got the coffee world talking… But why?

Comandante are pretty much unmatched in the hand grinder market for their build quality, aesthetic, and superb grinding ability. Their stylistic design, matched with high grind consistency and ability to grind at any level from Turkish-fine to cold-brew has meant that Comandante have built quite a reputation among come coffee connoisseurs and even World Brewers Cup Champions!

You might at this point be asking whether the Comandante can justify the price tag. However, the Comandante C40 Nitro Blade is really a case of buying once and buying right. If you value not only the ritual of freshly grinding coffee each morning and the flavour improvements this brings for your brew then this product could be for you.

Thanks to Comandante’s ambition to create the best on the market, and building their grinders from the bottom up using only the highest quality materials (high-alloyed stainless steel conical burrs, strengthened polymer-glass bean jar, solid oak handles, the list goes on…) this is one of the only hand coffee grinders out there that will grind super consistent coffee for any brew method.

Of course, being a hand coffee grinder also comes with its own benefits over electric grinders. Wave goodbye to waking up any housemates in the morning with a noisy electric grinder, compromising with subpar instant coffee at that non-coffee drinking friend of yours’s house (this product is easily portable, but of course dont forget fresh roasted to order beans!)

If you value freshly ground coffee as much as we do, and are looking for a hand grinder that delivers fresh, consistent grinds, something a little special, an investment that will last, the Comandante C40 Nitro Blade MK4 may be for you.

Whilst on the topic of freshly ground coffee, here’s a couple of reasons why you should consider investing in a coffee grinder (if you haven’t done so already)

Keep it Fresh

Once coffee is roasted organic compounds within the coffee start to react with oxygen in the air in a process known as oxidation. What this means for your coffee is that it will lose the flavour characteristics that make that morning brew so enjoyable. Whole beans will also oxidise, but at a far slower rate because of far smaller surface area. If you want to get the most flavour out of your coffee, grind fresh.

Choose your brew method

If you’re into your coffee you’ve probably got more than one way you like to brew. Different brew methods require different grind sizes, and a bag of pre-ground coffee won’t really give you the choice. Invest in a grinder, purchase whole beans, and give yourself the luxury of choosing how you want that morning brew.

…Plus, who doesn’t like to wake up to the smell of freshly ground coffee?

Hand grinders not your thing? Here are 3 electric grinders we highly recommend

  1. Wilfa Uniform

The Wilfa Uniform grinder is probably one of the best domestic grinders out there. It took Wilfa 3 years of development to design, build, and create the Uniform, and its elegant design and grinding ability is testament to this. With 41 grind settings from espresso to steeped and integrated scale to ensure you get the correct dosage each time, this is the perfect addition to any coffee lovers’ kitchen.

  1. Wilfa Svart

The little brother to the Wilfa Uniform, the Svart offers the same elegant and sleek styling for a slightly lower budget. Be aware that this will not grind fine enough for espresso but is perfectly suitable for anything from stove top brewer to steeped coffee.

  1. Sage Smart grinder Stainless Steel

A popular grinder amongst our customers here at Redber, and recommended by Luigi, our Head Roaster. The Sage Smart grinder comes with stainless steel conical burr grinders, 60 grind settings, and is suitable for any brew method. This grinder is also compatible with both portafilters and grounds containers.

What is Filter Grind for Coffee?

By Graham Jones on Feb 29, 2024

Filter grind refers to the consistency of coffee grounds optimized for use in filter brewing methods. This encompasses a broad spectrum of devices from the classic drip coffee maker to pour-overs and the Aeropress. The grind size for these methods is typically medium, resembling coarse sand. This size ensures that hot water can properly extract the coffee's flavours and aromas without passing through too quickly, as it might with a finer grind, or too slowly, as with a coarser grind.
