Mexico Los Altos medium-dark roast offers a rich and bold flavour with notes of ripe plum, sweet brown sugar, and nutty almond. The subtle citric acidity adds a bright and refreshing touch, while the juicy body enhances the overall depth and complexity of the coffee.
What you need to know
Mexico NKG Bloom Los Altos is a collaboration of 102 indigenous women from five municipalities in the Los Altos de Chiapas region of Mexico. These skilled women have been passing down their traditional knowledge and culture for generations.
Despite challenges such as the 2014 rust pandemic and ageing coffee plantations, these women have been instrumental in preserving coffee production in Mexico.
Due to existing gender inequalities, women in rural areas have historically had less power and access to resources, education, and employment. However, the men's exodus to urban areas has allowed the women to take on more prominent roles in the economy. In fact, amongst the 102 producers, 12 are under age 29 and 57 are between ages 30-50, representing both the present and future of coffee in the region.
Each producer cultivates an average of 1.2 hectares, carefully hand-pulping their cherries and fermenting them in small tanks before washing and sun-drying.
