The finer details...

The El Pensativo cooperative, from which we source our Antigua coffee, is located near the volcanoes of Acatenango and Fuego. Known collectively as La Horqueta, the volcanoes are always active but to a low level. The volcanic activity of the region creates an abundance of micronutrients in the air and soil and makes the coffee both delicious and relatively easy to grow.

El Pensativo was established in 1972 and has grown in production quantity and quality almost every year since then. With the help of another cooperative, they have been financed to upgrade the production equipment of local producers and provide experts to improve yield and final cup quality.

The collection ‘Antigua’ is made up of several local microlots which are very small scale and family run. The coffee cherries are dried on the roofs of the houses on the steep mountain side. Once it has undergone a drying process it is shipped to the cooperative for cupping and exporting.

The final coffee we receive is perfectly balanced with sweet caramel and exotic fruit. It finishes with a subtle citrus like acidity and a hint of hazelnut. The aroma of the coffee is sweet and the body smooth. It makes for a really pleasant drink however it is brewed. Our most recently lot was cupped at 83.

Delicious

I've had plenty of not only okay coffee from this site, but this is really great!

This batch is completely stale

I purchased this on the 29th (this is also the apparent roast date) but it wasn't posted until after New Year.
This shouldn't be an issue but what I've received is completely stale - has no aroma and virtually no flavour. I spent almost £20 on a kilo of whole beans (more than £20 including postage) and am incredibly disappointed.

Usually Redber sell excellent coffee but this is pathetic - would have been better off getting some pre-ground stuff from Sainsbury's

First time Redber customer, very pleased

Had been recommended Redber by friends and they suggested to try Guatemala Antigua Los Volcanes as a first coffee. Took a few attempts to get the grind size right, but once found, a very tasty coffee. Only problem the 1kg didn't last long, so need to order more now.

Rich yet easy-going coffee

I always circle back to this great coffee. A rich, smooth, slightly sweet base with sharp corners, it's always interesting and delicious.
