How to Clean & Descale Moccamaster Filter Coffee Machine

How to descale Moccamaster filter coffee machine?

How often you should descale your Moccamaster depends on the hardness of the water used and the frequency of use. Moccamaster recommends descaling after every 100 uses (every pack of filter papers). There are couple of indications that descaling is needed - the glass tube inside the water reservoir is slightly cloudy or the machine is making louder noises during the brewing process.

To descale Moccamaster filter machine use Durgol universal descaler.

    1. Fill the water reservoir with 150ml of tap water and add 150ml Durgol descaler. Stir well with a plastic spoon (do not use metal or silver spoons) until the solvent is completely mixed).
    2. Turn on the Moccamaster filter coffee machine and wait until all the water has run through the machine into the pot.
    3. Once the cycle has finished, carry out the process twice more with clear water so that the device is well rinsed.

How to clean Moccamaster filter coffee machine?

Coffee leaves oily residues which can build up over time and make your coffee taste bitter. If you fill your water reservoir with the coffee jug, even if you rinse it, there will always remain a bit of coffee which will eventually pollute your machine.

To clean your filter coffee machine, Moccamaster advises to use Clean Drop Cleaning Aid. It cleans in a mild and effective manner, and removes any filth and leftover coffee grounds. Same as with descaling, it is recommended to clean your machine after 100 uses (every pack of filter papers).

      1. Make sure your coffee machine is turned off and fill the water reservoir with clean tap water.
      2. Add one sachet of Clean Drop Cleaning Aid
      3. Turn on the coffee machine and wait until all the water has run through the machine into the pot.
      4. Once the cycle has finished, carry out the process twice more with clear water so that the device is well rinsed.

By following these simple steps, you’ll ensure that your Moccamaster filter coffee machine is always in top condition and ready to deliver delicious cups of coffee.

What is Filter Grind for Coffee?

This encompasses a broad spectrum of devices from the classic drip coffee maker to pour-overs and the Aeropress. The grind size for these methods is typically medium, resembling coarse sand. This size ensures that hot water can properly extract the coffee's flavours and aromas without passing through too quickly, as it might with a finer grind, or too slowly, as with a coarser grind.
