Many of the Indonesian islands were formed by volcanoes. They are therefore mountainous and have rich soil that is ideal for growing coffee. Some of the world's famous coffees are grown on the islands of the Malay Archipelago: Sumatra, Java and Sulawesi. Approximately 15% of all the coffee grown in Indonesia is Arabica.
Sumatra Mandheling coffee is grown on volcanic slopes of Mount Leuser near port Padang in the Black region (west-central Sumatra).
I just reviewed Old Brown Java which is my favourite coffee from Redber. My next favourite is the currently unobtainable Papua New Guinea Elimbari and this Sumatra Mandheling is third in my pecking order. They are similar in many respects being earthy and low acid coffees but my pecking order reflects the nuances and characterfulness of each variety. I have been drinking Mandheling all week, happily, but today I have OBJ and more is definitely more. Still five stars though.
As usual a first class coffee from a first class company. I have used Redber for many years and have nothing but praise for the coffee and service.
Friendly staff especially Sadie , very kind
Good taste not too bitter, would have preferred a touch stronger.
That is the key to excellence. Will buy more. But I am the only consumer here, so it's a slow process.
